The Mire Atu 2010 will be happening again on thursday 4th March.  This is the time when all our composers come together to show us their talents through their song compositions.  Terms and Conditions of the event is available below.  Therefore, those who are interested can complete the application form and send it to Rutera Taripo at the Ministry of Cultural Development.

 
INFORMATION PACKAGE -  “A CELEBRATION OF (Song) COMPOSING”
1.       Date & Time:  Thursday 4th March @ 7.30pm
2.        Venue:  Are Karioi Nui (National Auditorium)
3.        Entries:  The competition is restricted to Cook Islanders residing in the Cook Islands.  Composers are to fill in the Entry Form and handed to the Ministry of Culture before
or no later than 
16th February. 
4.       Theme -“Te Au Tuatua Pakari o Tō`ou `Enua `ē te Matakeinanga”  - (“The Wise Sayings of Your Island /Tribe”) and the style & taste of the composition must reflect the Cook Islands cultures.  The song must be in Cook Islands Māori. Entries that fail to meet these criteria will not be allowed in the competition.  A composer must enter only 1 song (in the competition) and to be sung by himself / herself or another singer.  A singer is not permitted to sing twice but only once.
  
5.  Only 10 – 12 composers will be required for this competition.

6.  Time Limit - Compositions must not be longer than 7 minutes and no less than 4 minutes.

7.  The composition is to be performed solo with up to 3 back-up vocalists live or pre-recorded vocalists. The performance of the composition must be live. 

8.       Rehearsals – Rehearsal times will be allocated and restricted only to the Composers and their singers (closed door). No other Composer and singer are permitted in the `Are Karioi Nui when another Composer is rehearsing.

9.  Recording    - All song arrangements for compositions are to be pre-recorded.  Composers 
     may choose their own Agent for recording their music.

10. Musical Accompaniment – Live musical accompaniment is permitted as long as the basics of  the composition are pre-recorded. Full live musical accompaniment is not permitted (eg. live band) Or optional.  The composer may have a live-band and it will be at the Composer’s cost.

11.  Costumes – Entirely up to the Composer

12.  Judging – The competition will be judged on Originality, Lyrics, Presentation (of singer & not of dancer) and Musical Arrangement.      (Reminder – this is a Composers Competition and not a Talent Quest Competition) Composers will be provided with the judging/scoring sheet on request. The judges’ decision on the night will be final. The judge’s score sheets will only be made available to the composers onrequest.  

13.  Copyright – Belongs to the Composer and the Ministry of Cultural Development.       The Ministry of Cultural Development exclusively reserves the right to air or sell any audio or        visual production of the event as in past years.
 
14.  Scripts – A brief explanation (script- of no more than 50 words) of every composition is 
 compulsory and handed to the Coordinator during your first (or before) rehearsal. A script of no more than 50 words will be for the MC and a supporting script of 50+ words for  the Judges. The scripts will be distributed to the Judges as well as the MC at the earliest opportunity prior to the day or start of the competition.  All words and scripts of songs must be in no later than 3.00pm on Monday 22nd February.    

15.  Songs that are similar in tune to another composition be screened early. The Coordinator shall have the right to consult composers prior to the competition to identify songs similar in tune to another and composers are to take note of that concern. 

16.  Songs that are similar to another composition may not be judged favorably. The Coordinator shall have the right to consult judges prior to the competition to identify songs which are very similar in tune to another and judges are to take note of that concern when judging.  

17.  The Coordinator reserves the right to disallow or ban anyone from participating in the competition for failure to abide by the rules of the competition or for any reason that brings or causes disrepute to the competition or others who are involved in the competition. 

18.  No Staff of MOCD permitted to enter the competition.           

19.  First Meeting with Composers will be on Wednesday 4th February at 4.00pm at Tauranga Vananga in the Conference Room.
